About the course

The aim of the course is to gain a theoretical understanding of high-frequency phenomena in circuits and systems and to apply this theory to the design of digital and analog high-frequency circuits, such as fast digital buses (HDMI, DDR RAM, …), wired (Ethernet, USB, ..) and wireless (BLE, Wifi, 5G) communication interfaces and integrated antennas, including the design and implementation of impedance matching.
Contents
In the course, we deal with the following contents theoretically and practically throughout the semester:
- Basic concepts of HF
- Two-port networks
- Noise
- RF systems, receivers, amplifiers and mixers
- Electromagnetic waves
- Antennas
- Transmission line theory
- Digital signal transmission
- Reflections on lines
- Crosstalk between lines
- Transmission of harmonic signals
- Transmission lines as special elements
- Graphical analysis of HF circuits
- Impedance matching
- S-parameters
Practice work
Teaching assistant: Assoc. Prof. Matevž Kunaver
Practice work is carried out every week according to the schedule and is divided into a theoretical part – solving tasks and problems, and a practical part, where exercises are carried out on measurement equipment and in the Altium Designer program.
