Award for LPVO Researchers at EU PVSEC 2026

At this year’s EU PVSEC conference in Rotterdam, members of our laboratory received an award for the paper titled “Wireless In-situ Monitoring of Temperature, Humidity and Outgassing in Encapsulated Perovskite Solar Cells.” The winning paper was selected from among 475 posters presented in the official conference program. It was featured in the “PV Module Performance – Modelling, Testing, Standards” session, which included a total of 34 posters.

The paper presents an innovative, flexible NFC sensor circuit fabricated on a polyimide substrate, featuring an integrated antenna and sensors. It is designed to be laminated directly inside a photovoltaic module, enabling real-time monitoring of temperature, relative humidity, and volatile organic compounds.

A key feature of the solution is the use of NFC technology, which allows for the wireless powering of the circuit and the transmission of measurement data through the module’s encapsulation. This approach enables direct monitoring of critical parameters linked to degradation processes in photovoltaic modules, thereby contributing to a better understanding of their reliability, aging, and lifespan.

The authors of the award-winning paper are Marko Jankovec, Mark Urbančič, Arslan Ali, Kristijan Brecl, Špela Tomšič, Antonin Faes, Marko Jošt, and Marko Topič; the work was conducted in collaboration with PVLAB EPFL (Switzerland). The paper was presented at the conference by our doctoral student Arslan Ali.

LPVO at EU PVSEC 2026

LPVO Celebrates 20 Years

This year, the Laboratory of Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics (LPVO) celebrates the 20th anniversary of its founding. Over the past two decades, the laboratory has grown into a well-established research group in the fields of photovoltaics, optoelectronics, and photonics, and today it has more than 30 members.

By participating in numerous research projects and collaborations with both local and international partners, we have made important contributions to the advancement of knowledge and research, while also publishing a number of impactful scientific achievements. Another important part of our laboratory is education. We actively involve students through academic activities (such as seminars, bachelor’s and master’s theses), as well as extracurricular initiatives (such as student projects and the EMC Workshop). Bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral graduates from our laboratory have gone on to successful careers in both research and industry.

On this important anniversary, we express our sincere gratitude to all current and former laboratory members, students, colleagues, partners, and friends of the laboratory. Through your knowledge, dedication, and collaboration, you all play an essential role in shaping our story.

Twenty years is an important milestone, but also an inspiration for the future. We will continue to pursue our mission of advancing cutting-edge research in photovoltaics and optoelectronics, educating new generations of researchers, and through our work contributing to the development of sustainable technologies.

Thank you to everyone who has been, or continues to be, part of the successful LPVO story. We look forward to new research challenges and shared successes in the years ahead.

The 12th Slovenian Photovoltaic Conference SLO-PV 2026 and Workshop EuroReg-PV 2026

The Laboratory for Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics (LPVO) and the Slovenian Technological Platform for Photovoltaics organized the 12^th Slovenian Photovoltaic Conference SLO-PV 2026, which took place on Tuesday, 23 June 2026 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Tržaška cesta 25 in Ljubljana. We have celebrated 20 years of LPVO, 20 years of conferences SLO-PV and 20 years of European Technology and Innovation Platform Photovoltaics ETIP-PV.

The EuroReg-PV 2026 Workshop was held in the same week from 22nd to 24th June 2026 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. You are cordially invited to visit the conference and workshop webpages for futher information.
